My Story
March 17, 2009Lisa,
I really truly believe I have had fibromyalgia all my life, but it was after the birth of my fourth son that my illness made it self known in a big way. I already had the wrath of family coming down on me for having so many children. So with 4 little boys, ages 8,7 fifteen months, and a newborn, we had no help.
My husband, a computer programmer, came home when he could get there. We lived in Riverside he worked in Orange county. In all of this I was searching out why suddenly I was in so much pain and not finding answers. It took seven years. My mothers remarks were “If you would just got up off your lazy butt you would feel better.” –Nice mom.
It has taken her years to come to the conclusion that maybe
I have something. If I ended up in ICU, it would have been
my fault because of all the medications I was taking.
So I am skipping way ahead… I am now 55. I am still in
pain and I cannot say I have ever really gotten a handle
on the pain or the depression that hits. In the last nine
years my family and I have been homeless. I had a little
girl when I was days away from the age of 41. Until October
we lived in an 18-wheeler for two and a half years. We finally
came to live with my youngest son. My husband lost his job
a few weeks ago and now he is living in northern California
with my my second son. The bright side is I hope is that
he will be able to get a computer job again.
The fallout from my illness and our homelessness has been
overwhelming to say the least. I have come out of it with
the Lord telling me I am a writer and I do believe God has
a plan, but some days it is so difficult to understand why
I am still here. I am sure I will weather this latest storm
and I still have the ability to look in the sky for rainbows.
Hope it what keeps us going. When it is lost, we are lost.
Until He picks us up once more and I am here, you are not
alone.

What Health Info Should Your Family Have?
March 17, 2009
If something happened to put you in the hospital unexpectedly tomorrow, would your family have the details about your
illness, care options, insurance and more? We found a great checklist type article from the Mayo Clinic. Granted, it’s titled, “Aging parents: 10 Things to Know for an Emergency” yet it’s applicable for any family member. Print it out and then start gathering the information and give a few people you trust with your medical decisions
a copy.
Worried About Identity Theft?
March 17, 2009Docs Okay with National Health Insurance
March 17, 2009A study shows a solid majority of doctors, 59 percent, now supports national health insurance. Such plans typically involve a single, federally administered social insurance fund that that guarantees health care coverage for everyone, much like Medicare currently does for seniors. The plans typically eliminate or substantially reduce the role of private insurance companies in the health care financing system, but still allow patients to go the doctors of their choice. A study was recently published in Annals of Internal Medicine. You can read more

Ever wonder what is going on in cities where friends and family
live? This web site Newseum.org
falls under one of those “coolest tools ever” on the internet. Just put your mouse on a city anywhere in the world and the newspaper headlines pop up. Double click and the page gets larger. Then you can either read the pdf version or click through to the paper itself in
the upper right corner.
